KALYAN: A major accident was averted after the driver of a traffic towing van allegedly suffered a fit of epilepsy and lost control over the vehicle and dashed 16 vehicles, including 15 motorcycles and one car in the busy market of
Kalyan under the Thane district of Maharashtra on Thursday. The van also dashed jewellery shop damaging its front door. Police said, luckily, no one was injured in the mishap.
The incident came to light on Thursday afternoon when suddenly driver of the van, posted at Kalyan traffic police station, suffered the fit and lost control hitting vehicles parked on the roadside and later dashed it to a jewellery shop. After the incident, driver
Sunil Jadhav fled the spot and later surrendered at the local Mahatma Phule police station from where he was rushed to Rukimibai hospital for medical examination.
Police said, acting on the complaint of the vehicle owners, they have booked Jadhav under negligence causing accident and rash driving case. They are waiting the medical report of the doctor to find weather he suffered fit of epilepsy claimed by Jadhav or weather he was drunk.
