KALYAN: K M Agrawal college's decision to put out a poster last Monday at its main entrance mentioning six lecturers who have fared badly in delivering lectures between July and November has created quite a stir. The poster, which has now gone viral on social media, has the professors up in arms against the management's decision, which they claim is nothing short of humiliation.
The college pulled down the poster the following day after the furore.
The professors named in the poster claim there is a hidden agenda since some names are missing. The management, however, claimed they pasted the poster with the intention to improve performances of these professors to avoid such lapses in the future.
The college had put out the poster to welcome students to the New Year while also mentioning the names of the professors alongside the greetings. The poster reads, "Our Non-Performing Assets who conducted lowest number of lectures". Below it were the names of two lecturers each from Arts, Commerce and Science faculties.
Surprised, college students took photographs of the poster and in no time it went viral. Some of them even welcomed the college's move, saying it will help students as this will force lecturers to take their job more seriously.
A student who did not wish to be named said, "It's the first time that we saw such poster about lecturers who did not take proper class, and i think the college has done a good job". Lecturers, however, claimed there is no rule in
Mumbai University or college circular about displaying names publicly like this. They claim some people in the college management deliberately targeted a few lecturers because there are other professors who have taken even fewer classes than them and not featured on the poster.
Another professor said that of the six professors, two were on medical leave and yet the management decided to pull them up this way.
Omprakash (Munna) Pandey, secretary of K M Agrawal college management, told TOI, "Every year, our college has a pass percentage of 98% to 99%. The decision to put out the poster was taken with the intention to help students as due to the non-performance of these lecturers in the last few months students were suffering in particular subjects."
Pandey further said, "Before putting up the poster, we had warned these lecturers but they did not take the warning seriously."
