However, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Thane has already started taking action and has suspended nearly 34 licenses of offenders who have repeatedly violated traffic rules.
With effect this year, the traffic officials have started maintaining computerised records of offenders. The computerisation of the traffic department's records has enabled cops to keep a track on repeated offenders. The details of offenders are registered in the computer. Hence if the offender is caught the next time flouting traffic rules, then his license would be seized. The case is then forwarded to the RTO for suspension.
"We have booked several offenders who have repeated their mistakes. In all, we have booked 1,087 offenders who have repeated offences for the second time, whereas 211 offenders were booked repeating the offence for the third time. Among these, 806 offenders were sent to court and penalised according to their offence. Licenses of motorists, who were found violating traffic rules for more than three times, will be suspended. The RTO has suspended 34 such licenses that have repeated offences for more than three times," said, Vikram Deshmane, deputy commissioner of police, Traffic.

"The traffic department will be maintaining a detailed record of repeated offenders. Hence motorists and vehicle owners are requested to maintain all the required documents and strictly follow traffic rules. Repeated offenders might have to face various problems in future," he added.
Till March, starting from the beginning of this year, the traffic department has registered about 1,44,324 cases and has recovered fine of Rs 1,73,17,122. There is an increase in the number of cases registered as compared to last year. The traffic police registered 1,10,066 cases and had recovered fine of Rs 1,34,80,278 from January 2010 to March 2010.
