The complainant, a Mumbra resident, and her husband, who resides in Kurla, are at the centre of a legal case, the police informed adding that the wife is a housewife and the accused works in a private firm.

According to police sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday night around 8.45pm when the husband called his father-in-law and declared he was divorcing his wife. He allegedly uttered "talaq" three times over the phone, a practice now criminalised under Indian law.

The victim immediately approached Mumbra police, leading to the registration of a formal FIR on Wednesday. The case was filed under Section 351(4) of the Bombay Marriages and Dissolution of Marriage Act and the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.

Investigating officials from Mumbra police station confirmed that the case is under active investigation. Currently, no arrests have been made as the probe continues.

The police are in the process of collecting evidence and preparing to record statements from both parties, probing it from all angles.
