THANE: The Thane City Police arrested four Bangladeshi women in the Uthalsar area following a raid on Wednesday. The police said the women were reportedly working at establishments in Navi Mumbai.
A police team led the operation after receiving information about the women illegally entering India.
The police said after rounding them up and during a subsequent verification process at their rented accommodation under the Rabodi Police Station jurisdiction, officials found the women did not possess valid immigration documentation.
According to police, the women entered India 4-5 years ago. The investigating team recovered identification documents during the operation.
Police are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding their housing arrangements and employment. “We have launched the probe as to who employed them and how they entered the country and the person who provided them logistical assistance from bringing them to the country through illegal means,” said a police officer.
More such raids are underway to identify illegal immigrants in the Thane city police.
Legal proceedings have been initiated under relevant sections of the Passport Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The operation was conducted under the supervision of Thane City Police Deputy Police Commissioner, Amar Singh Jadhav.
