THANE: Mumbra police have booked five persons for allegedly assaulting an MNS office bearer who tore down the birthday banners of an NCP leader affiliated with Ajit Pawar's faction.
The accused, identified as Sikandar Khan, Sayed Badshah, Mohammed Noor, Zuber Qureshi, and Adnan Shaikh, were captured on video assaulting the MNS worker, Irfan Sayeed. The video of the assault was subsequently circulated on social media triggering fear among the citizens.
According to the victim's complaint, he, as an office bearer of the MNS party , had torndown the banners of NCP leader Najib Mulla, last week.
But, on Monday, the accused confronted and assaulted him, questioning his actions. They kicked him, punched and assaulted in a brutal manner and shot this video which went viral.
Senior Inspector of Mumbra police, Nivrutti Kolhatkar stated that a case has been registered against the five accused under various sections of indian penal code, but no arrests have been made as the sections invoked are bailable.
Notices are to be issued under the relevant sections, but the accused were not found at the time and they are being searched, Kolhatkar told TOI.
The victim, Irfan Sayeed, has accused the Mumbra police of going soft towards the accused.
