Agashe, who lived in the Roshni Complex near the mental hospital, was the mother of a correspondent with a news agency.

According to the police, Agashe left her home around 6.40am to purchase milk. On her way back, she was hit by a vehicle traveling from Mumbai towards Nashik.

The driver immediately fled the scene, leaving the elderly woman severely injured.

Bystanders took her to Thane District Government Hospital, but due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to Sion Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her body was subsequently sent for post-mortem at Thane District Government Hospital.

The Naupada Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. They are focusing on tracking down the absconding driver and have started reviewing CCTV footage from the area.

Agashe's family remained unaware of the accident for nearly two hours. She had accidentally left her mobile phone at home, and when she did not return, her family began searching for her.

Although Agashe was conscious enough to provide a contact number to those helping her, a miscommunication led to an unsuccessful attempt to reach her relatives.

The heartbreaking news was eventually delivered to her family by a nurse who lived in the same building.

The nurse, who works at the Civil Hospital, recognized Agashe's body during the post-mortem and immediately contacted the family to inform them of the tragedy.
