DPR completed for 21-km double-decker corridor between Shil Phata and Ranjnoli, tenders to be floated soon: MP Shrikant Shinde

KALYAN: The much-awaited double-decker corridor between Shil Phata and Ranjnoli is inching closer to reality with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) now completed. Member of Parliament Shrikant Shinde announced that tenders for the ambitious project will be floated soon by the MMRDA.

Planned as a 21-kilometer elevated structure, the corridor will feature a road flyover on the first level and a metro line on the second, making it a unique double-decker design on line of Nagpur.

The project aims to ease massive traffic congestion while integrating metro connectivity across Kalyan, Bhiwandi, Thane, and Navi Mumbai.

According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the estimated cost of the project is around ₹6,000 crore.

Shinde explained that the Kalyan-Taloja Metro Line is already progressing rapidly, while work on the Metro Line 5 Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro Line has been initiated on the Thane-Bhiwandi stretch. A decision has also been taken on whether the Bhiwandi-Kalyan segment will be built underground or elevated. Once completed, the Kalyan-Taloja and Bhiwandi-Kalyan metros will be interlinked, enabling passengers seamless access to Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan, and Bhiwandi.

Plans are also underway to extend the Bhiwandi-Kalyan line up to Ulhasnagar and Chikhloi in Ambernath and to take up the planned Kanjurmarg-Badlapur metro line in the near future.

Speaking after offering prayers at the historic Durgadi Fort on occassion of Navratri festival, Shinde highlighted that ₹17 crore has already been sanctioned by the state government for fort conservation, including restoration of bastions and beautification works. He further announced that the fort area would be developed in coordination with the Maritime Board, and amenities for visitors would be enhanced. Development of Bhatale Lake, installation of a naval museum, and a T-80 warship are also part of the long-term plan to boost tourism.

Shinde emphasized that the Shil Phata–Ranjnoli double-decker corridor will not only save land acquisition costs but also provide long-term relief from traffic snarls especially on Bhiwandi-Kalyan-Shil phata road. Once executed, it will transform connectivity and contribute to the future growth of the Kalyan-Bhiwandi region.
