THANE: Mira-Bhayandar corporator Varsha Giridhar Bhanushali (36) has been sent to judicial custody in Adharwadi jail at Kalyan by the Thane District and Sessions court.
Bhanushali was caught red-handed by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Thane, while accepting Rs 60,000 from a Bhayandar fabricator last week. ACB officials had also found Rs 10 lakh cash and 1kg gold ornaments from her bank locker during the preliminary investigations.
Bhanusali was earlier produced before special judge S J Kale at Thane District and Sessions Court on June 7. The judge had remanded her in five days’ police custody. The ACB then raided her residence but found nothing, so they decided to check her bank locker.
After checking the locker, they found the cash and gold ornaments.
Bhanusali had asked the complainant Radha Harshrai Parekh (35), for a bribe of Rs 1.6 lakh to grant her permission for raising the height of her factory shed.
Parekh had consulted with ACB officials, who laid a trap and nabbed her.
