Thane schools to celebrate Children’s Day with a twist
Thane: With an intent of spreading awareness among the young ones regarding certain social issues, several schools across the lake city have decided to celebrate Children’s Day this time in a unique manner.
Be it showcasing films for students on topics like child labour and child abuse, donating goodies to the underprivileged, gifting presents to poor kids and organising an array of competitions and performances, many educational institutes have planned a plethora of activities for their students.
Snehalata Dev, principal of Symbiosis Convent High School & Junior College of Science, Arts & Commerce in Mumbra, said, “This time, the celebrations will be based on values. We are planning to screen short-films which are relevant to the modern society. This way students can not only relate to the movies, but will also learn something. The movies will revolve around key issues like say no to tobacco and the recent rubella and
“Besides this, we will be taking kids to nearby villages and municipal schools so that everyone can enjoy the occasion together. Our students will be encouraged to make handmade gifts for these kids. We will have a talent hunt competition wherein there will be prizes,” added Dev.
As most schools are still shut for Diwali vacation, some will be celebrating the occasion next week.
“Once the school reopens on November 21 we will have a grand celebration. There will be a fun-n-fair with loads of games, dance and musical performances. There will also be a food stalls; wherein students will don their chefs hats and prepare some culinary delights,” said Shilpa Jejurkar, principal of Arunodaya Public School.
