MUMBAI: The Thane sessions court on Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail application of Sandhya Singh’s son Raghuveer after the Mumbai crime branch opposed it. “The court on Tuesday rejected Raghuveer’s anticipatory bail application. Now we will decide on the next course of action, whether to question him or arrest him,” said joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy.

Opposing the application, crime branch officers had filed a confidential report in a sealed envelope with the court.
What had ignited suspicion among the police was that though there were no indications of them planning to arrest Raghuveer, he went ahead and sought anticipatory bail. Moreover , the police also want to take Raghuveer in their custody and interrogate him, to clarify the discrepancies in his statements. While he had initially told the police that his mother had gone to a bank the day she went missing, he had told the two domestic help at their place that she had gone to the home of her brothers, Jatin and Lalit Pandit in Juhu. This, when Sandhya reportedly had no plan of visiting her brothers at that point.
Besides, the police found some of his alleged behaviour suspicious. According to the officers, he had brought two snakes to the house and would often scare his mother with them. “Raghuveer would also beat up Sandhya over money for drugs,” the police said. A few days before Sandhya went missing, she had collected Rs 90,000 from rent. “Within three days, Rs 30,000 was stolen from her home,” said the police, hinting that Raghuveer might have done it.
The two domestic help and other witnesses also told the police that the mother and son often fought over money.
