NEW DELHI: 8 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in Thane district, Maharashtra, over the weekend for residing in India without proper documentation.

Police conducted raids in Bhiwandi town’s Kalher and Kongaon areas on Saturday and Sunday following a tip-off and a subsequent complaint. The group, which includes one woman, ranges in age from 22 to 42.

They were unable to produce valid documents permitting their stay in the country.

The police stated that "They were arrested and booked under provisions of the Foreign Nationals Act and the Indian Passport Act." The detainees’ occupations included scrap selling (three individuals), laborers (two individuals), a mason, and a plumber.
