6 workers killed as lift in under-construction Thane tower crashes

Thane: Six construction workers died and another was seriously injured when a service lift at a 40-storey under-construction tower crashed in Thane around 6pm on Sunday. The cause of the mishap was not immediately known.
The labourers were descending to the basement after wrapping up work for the day when the rope of the service lift at Runwal Eirene, in Balkum locality, snapped and the lift came hurtling down to the ground floor-level.
While Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation, claimed that the elevator had crashed from the 40th storey, a spokesperson for the construction company said that the lift had come down from the 13th floor.
