KALYAN: The State Excise department on Saturday arrested two persons and seized liquor worth over Rs 56 lakh and a BMW car following searches conducted on a Mumbai-based wine shopkeeper in Kalyan and Bhiwandi.
While the team has arrested accused Sandeep Davani, 34, and Hanumant Thange, 62, search is on for main accused Deepak Jaisinghani residing at Kalyan.
Nilesh Sangade, Supritendent of Thane Excise Department said, "Acting on a specific information on Saturday evening, a search was launched at a godown situated in Bapgaon area in Bhiwandi where our team seized 266 boxes of liquor and nabbed two accused. During the enquiry, the team further checked the BMW parked outside Jaisinghani's residence in Kalyan and recovered 25 boxes of liquor."
"The recovered liquor has been manufactured in Daman and Haryana. The accused used to smuggle it to Maharashtra and sell."
