THANE: The Mumbra police have arrested two persons hailing from Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh and have seized from them a country made pistol and a live cartridge.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Hashim khan, 29, and his accomplice Mohammad Raza Khan, 24, said a police officer.
The police informed TOI that acting on an information that two persons were to reach at a specific spot near the petrol pump in Kausa area, a team laid a trap at the location to nab the duo.
The duo came riding on a bike and were intercepted by the sleuths. Upon carrying out a body search, the police found one country made pistol, two magazines and one live cartridge.
The total value of the seized items Rs 1.45 lakh, the police said.
When produced before a magistrate court the accused were remanded to police custody, the police said.
The officer further said that the cops are now probing the source of the firearms and if the arrested accused had earlier sold any firearms to anyone. “It is suspected that the accused could just be a pawn of the entire gang and they are being interrogated for further links,” said a police officer.
The Mumbra police have filed a case against the accused under the Indian Arms Act and also under the Maharashtra Police Act.
