Surat: A gang of six women burglars targeted a garment shop in Saiyedpura area early on Tuesday and escaped after stealing Rs 1.44 lakh cash.
This was second shop that the gang had targeted in the city after stealing valuables from one in Katargam area few months ago. The entire incident was captured in CCTV in which the women are seen stealing.
Lalgate police said that the six women had entered the shop of Mohammad Umer Chandiwala, 30, in Ambedkar Street opposite Saiyedpura pumping Station.
Police are yet to identify them since faces of all were covered and the video is not very clear, police said.
“Police are yet to make any arrest in the case. The women are not yet identified but it is suspected that the same gang was involved in a theft in Katargam reported few months ago,” said a police officer of Lalgate police station. Police investigation revealed that the group of women target a shop after doing proper recce. In the CCTV video, it is visible that the women sat on stairs of the shop for sometime.
One group member tries to pull the shutter and creates gap of few inches while two or more members hold a dupatta high to cover her. The slimmest group member crawls into the shop from the narrow gap with covered face and a torch. She steals cash and comes out within couple of minutes.
“Police are examining CCTV footages to get more details about the women. They sit of steps outside targeted shop normally like some passers by so nobody suspects them. They executes burglary within minutes,” the police said.
