SURAT: A 56-year-old woman ended life by jumping off of her ninth floor residence in Bhatar area of city on Sunday. Preliminary investigation by police revealed that the woman was under mental stress and depression. Police are yet to find the exact reason.
The deceased, identified as Swati Patil, jumped from her flat on ninth floor of Pooja Apartment in Ravi Shankar Sankul near Bharat Crossroad in the afternoon.
She died on the spot and her body was taken to New Civil Hospital, Surat for post mortem examination. She used a stool to climb upto the window and then jumped outside.
Her husband Hemant was present in the house at the time of the incident and was sleeping in bedroom. Preliminary investigation revealed that Patil was under treatment for mental stress. She recently told her husband that she wanted to commit suicide after which her husband counselled her.
The couple was alone at home as their maid had went out to buy something. Their daughter is married and lives in Mumbai.
Patil was employed in a bank but she took early retirement due to health issues. Hemant was employed as professor in a college. Police did not find any suicide note in the house.
