Viral video: Surat teen booked for assaulting police during liquor raid; businessman father arrested
SURAT: Althan police have booked 19-year-old Jainam Shah, son of businessman Samir Shah, for allegedly attacking a police personnel and obstructing him from performing their duty.
The action came after a video of Jainam assaulting a police official went viral. The incident reportedly occurred during a raid on a birthday party where liquor was allegedly being served.
Police said Jainam has been booked under sections 121(1) and 221 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attacking a public servant and obstructing a public servant from discharging official duties.
According to officials, Jainam attacked sub-inspector B.B. Patel while he was performing his duty after liquor was found in a car parked outside a restaurant in the posh Althan area.
The party was allegedly organised by Jainam's father, Samir Shah, at the restaurant, where liquor was reportedly to be served.
Earlier, police had arrested Samir Shah and another person, Vraj Shah, after seizing liquor stored in ice boxes from Vraj's car. Both were booked under provisions of the Prohibition Act for allegedly supplying and storing liquor.
Police had initially released Jainam after he submitted an apology letter, but following public criticism over leniency, a formal case was later registered against him.

Banning liquor is a gimmick to earn illegal money by arresting the consumers. It's a source of earning black money, harassing public. If people's health or for the good of the people why isn't smoking or chewing Tabasco banned? That is worse as not only are the consumers ger cancer but so also the passive smokers. The poor who smoke bidis are also badly hit by this addiction. Not so much for consuming alcohol.Read allPost comment
