SURAT : While the diamond city is preparing to celebrate Uttrayan festival with fun and fervor, residents are eagerly waiting for the International Kite festival being organised by Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) at the sprawling SMC grounds at Adajan on Wednesday.
Like every year, residents are excited to witness giant kites of different size, shape and colour to fill the skies.
Sources said the International kite festival has become a signature event for the civic body and that it attracts scores of people. Unlike last year, this time around there are about 49 Foreign kitists from 19 countries participating in the even with their hand-made kites of different shapes, sizes and colours.
Jatin Shah, city engineer told TOI, "Looking at the huge response last year, this time around we have invited more foreign participants to enthrall the residents. This year's kite festival is going to be a huge success"
This time around elaborate security arrangement have been made on the roof tops of the high rise buildings surrounding the SMC ground to keep the mischief mongers at bay. Security personnel will be deployed on the terraces of all the high rise building to protect the kites being severed or cut by the mischief mongers.
