SURAT: Sumul Dairy in the city is expected to increase milk price after April 11. This follows the decision by Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) that markets brand Amul to increase milk price in all major dairies after April 8.
"Rising inflation and increase in excise duty on packaging material for milk pouches are the reasons behind the increase in the milk prices by Re 1 to Rs 2 per litre on different Amul brands.
Sumul has enough packaging stock and thus, we plan to implement the price rise after April 11," managing director, Sumul, Jayesh Desai said.
According to Desai, the premium Amul milk brands like Amul Gold and Amul Shakti will see a price rise of Rs 2 per litre and that the low fat milk price will be increased by Re 1 per litre.
After price revision, consumers in the diamond city will have to shell out Rs 40 for Amul Gold per litre, Rs 37 for Amul Shakti, Rs 27 for Amul Slim and Trim and Rs 29 for Amul Taaza.
GCMMF has already increased the price of buttermilk by Re 1 per litre in Gujarat from Sunday. Milk prices increased twice during 2011 in Gujarat. GCMMF first hiked prices of standard and double toned milk by Rs 2 and Re 1 per litre, respectively, in April 2011. Three months later, the rates were revised again. The price hike in July 2011 was the 14th price hike introduced by GCMMF since 2006.
