SMC to honor past councilors, Mayors and commissioners

On the occasion of 164 birth anniversary of Surat Sudharai that became Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) in 1966 , all the past municipal Councilors, Mayors and Municipal Commissioners would be facilitated by the present set up.

SURAT: On the occasion of 164 birth anniversary of Surat Sudharai that became Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) in 1966 , all the past municipal Councilors, Mayors and Municipal Commissioners would be facilitated by the present set up. During the three day celebrations that is scheduled to start on May 15, all past municipal Councilors would be honored in a programme in a function to be held at Sanjeev Kumar auditorium in Pal .

Similarly all past mayors and municipal Commissioners would be felicitated in a function held at the same venue on May 17. On the occasion, State governor OP Kohli would be present. There are about 730 odd councilors whereas 14 past mayors and 24 commissioners would be facilitated.
SMC has also constituted a seven member committee for these programmes . Apart from Municipal Commissioner Milind Torwane and Mayor Niranjan Janjmera , other members of the committee include Dr BA Parikh , former vice –chancellor of VNSGU, Bharat Shah, social worker running Chaydo, Sonal Vidya known artist, Haribhai Kathiriya , of Loksamarpan Raktadan Kendra and Nisarg Patel a known player of the city.
“We planned to lay foundation stone of our SMC new building at Sub-jail place during this celebration. However as Chief Minister Anandiben Patel is going to be on tour to China during this period, we have decided to postpone that programme and go ahead with the rest.” Said Mayor Niranjan Janjmera.
