Saris stolen from train

Saris worth over Rs 6 lakh were stolen from a goods compartment of Tapti Ganga Express which reached Surat station on Wednesday night.

SURAT: Saris worth over Rs 6 lakh were stolen from a goods compartment of TaptiGanga Express which reached Surat station on Wednesday night. The railway authorities were unable to open the compartment for almost 12 hours as it was locked from inside.
Suppliers from Surat had sent the saris to Varanasi. They were packed in boxes. "The compartment could not be opened by parcel staff at Varanasi.

Therefore, the goods could not be unloaded at Varanasi. We believe the miscreants had locked the compartment from inside while carrying out the theft. How they did it is a mystery," a parcel office staff at Surat railway station said.
"I lost textile products worth Rs 3 lakh in the theft. We regularly send textile products to Uttar Pradesh through train. This has happened for the first time," director, Suchitra Sarees, Jaiprakash Chhaparia said.
A textile manufacturer Jagdamba Saris also lost textile product worth Rs 3 lakh.
