The FOGWA also stated that the economic offence wing of the city police lodged complaints in the default cases above Rs 25 lakh, which should be reduced to Rs 5 lakh in order to protect the small and medium weavers from losing money to defaulters and fly-by-night operators in the textile markets.

areas should be intimated to display the list of shops on the entrance of their gates with their respective GST numbers and police stations asked to assist weavers in default cases, it said.

FOGWA president Ashok Jirawala said, “We have presented the issues concerning the power loom sector to the police commissioner. The industry is passing through a rough patch due to GST’s implementation. Many power loom units have shut down in the last one month. Under such circumstances, we need the help of the police to protect the weavers.”
