SURAT: The monsoon's first case of H1N1 virus has been reported in the city on Thursday night. A 25-year-year-old woman from Ved Road area has tested positive for
swine flu, which has taken the total number of people who had tested positive for the virus in the city to 155.
Dr Piyush Shah, designated officer for the swine flu cell in jilla panchayat, told TOI, "The woman was brought to New Civil Hospital a day ago as a H1N1 suspect patient and her reports are positive.
This is the first case of the monsoon. A male had reported positive for the virus 15 days ago, but he was infected in Mumbai. This woman got infected in the city. We are taking all the steps to avoid the spread of the deadly virus during the monsoon."
So far, there have been 875 suspected cases and 24 deaths due to swine flu in the city. Meanwhile, no suspected cases were reported on Friday.
