Surat: National School of Drama (NSD) will be celebrating National Tribal Festival of Art, Music and Drama in the Diamond City this month-end. More than 450 artistes and artisans from theatre and film, and art and craft industry will be participating at Indoor Stadium and Gandhi Smruti Bhavan during the five-day festival beginning March 28. The 10-day art and craft mela will be held at Indoor Stadium from March 21.
This is for the first time that NSD is holding such a prestigious festival in Surat.
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) officer S R Khan said, "The proposal for allotment of Indoor Stadium for the National Tribal Festival has been placed before the standing committee. The NSD festival is being supported by the cultural department of Government of India." NSD director Waman Kendre visited SMC headquarters on Wednesday to hold discussions on the proposed programme with municipal commissioner. NSD plans to stage drama at Gandhi Smruti Bhavan for three days from March 28 and set up 50 exhibition stalls at Indoor Stadium. Indoor Stadium will also be the venue for dance and drama seminars during the festival.
Municipal commissioner Milind Torwane said, "Local people have an opportunity to see the talent of national-level artistes at the festival. Local artistes will be able to mingle with them and exhibit their talent too."
