SURAT: Crime branch sleuths nabbed two persons with a country-made pistol and a cartridge before they could murder a Rander resident on Monday night. The accused planned the murder during 'qatl ki raat' observation in minority areas on the eve of
Muharram.
The cops arrested Mohammad Ilyas Kapadiya, 33, of Rander and Sajid Shaikh, 29, of Hodi Bangala while they were near Rupali Talkies in Rander.
They recovered a country-made pistol worth Rs 10,000 and a cartridge worth Rs 100 from the accused.
Senior officials had received a tip-off regarding the two individuals planning to murder Anish Bombaywala. The accused were on a brand new bike when they were nabbed.
During interrogation, they allegedly told the police that Kapadiya had started a road side eatery in partnership with Bombaywala in Rander around one and half year ago which they eventually shut as they did not get good response. After a few months Kapadiya started another eatery in the vehicle that was purchased for the earlier venture.
This vehicle was seized by Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) twice following anonymous applications. Kapadiya said that he suspected that Bombaywala behind the applications.
To take revenge, he planned to murder Bombaywala. During a visit to Madhya Pradesh, Kapadiya allegedly purchased the weapon from Khanchroad on way to Ratlam and even tested it after returning. Meanwhile his friend Shaikh came to know about the plan and he offered help. They both were waiting for the right time to attack.
