Low-lying areas waterlogged

Surat: Around 160 people living in Rander and Dhastipura were shifted to safer locations as the waters of the Tapi River entered the low-lying areas on Monday.Multiple floodgates were closed to prevent water from entering the city, but this led to water logging in areas like Kadarsha Ni Naal. Following heavy discharge downstream, the river was flowing bank to bank in the city. Heavy rainfall upstream of Tapi resulted in over five lakh cusecs of inflow into the Ukai dam. This further led to above three lakh cusecs discharge from the dam since Sunday morning. TNN

Water level in Ukai swells

The water level of Ukai Dam in Surat is expected to rise due to the release of water from the Hatnur dam in Maharashtra. All 41 gates of the Hatnur dam have been opened, and the water level at Ukai is expected to reach 342 feet by Sunday evening. In other parts of Maharashtra, heavy rainfall has also led to an increase in water stock in dams in Nashik and the Bhima basin.

TN parties slam Karnataka govts refusal to release 5,000 cusecs of Cauvery water

Political parties in Tamil Nadu have criticized the Karnataka government for refusing to release 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu as per the directive of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, K S Alagiri, expressed support for the state's farmers in the ongoing dispute. PMK leader S Ramadoss called for an all-party meeting, stating that the Tamil Nadu government should inform the country that political parties in the state are united on the issue. AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran condemned Karnataka's deputy chief minister's statement that water would not be released to Tamil Nadu.

Cauvery: K'taka told to release 5,000 cusecs

The Cauvery water regulation committee has directed the Karnataka government to release 5,000 cusecs of water per day for the next 15 days. Tamil Nadu had asked for 15,000 cusecs, including the backlog, but Karnataka refused. The committee had previously directed Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs for 15 days, due to the hydro-meteorological situation in the Cauvery basin. Karnataka claims it does not have enough water due to lack of rainfall. Tamil Nadu has only received 38tmcft of water compared to the stipulated 98tmcft.
