BHARUCH: Nearly 300 schools in Bharuch district plan to rusticate their students for riding or driving vehicles to schools after the death of a student in a recent accident at Sravan crossing of Bharuch. The teenager was going to school on his motor-bike when he was crushed under the wheels of a truck at Dahej bypass.
The decision in this regard is likely to be announced soon by the schools.
A meeting of the district education officer, Bharuch police officials, Regional Transport Office officials (RTO) and Bharuch Traffic Education Trust representatives was held here today to discuss the issue. The meeting was attended by school principals from the district. DEO BN Rajgor said, "We don't want our students to die in accidents. Hence, we want to request parents to not allow their kids to ride vehicles. We have instructed all the schools to ban their students from bringing vehicles to schools. We have asked police and RTO to take strict action against students found riding vehicles on roads."
M C Patel, deputy superintendent of police, said, "We will penalize the students found riding vehicles to students and in the second stage will book them and their parents under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Notice will also be issued to schools if their students are found riding vehicles on roads."
Bharuch Traffic Education Trust (BTET) plans to organize various programmes for schools. "We will organize a get together of parents in schools to spread awareness about the Motor Vehicles Act," said BTET president Anish Parikh.
