Iron scrap EoU units raided in DNH, Vapi

SURAT: The Directorate General of GST Investigation’s (DGGI) Surat wing raided six

iron scrap

export-oriented units (EOUs) located in union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DNH),

Vapi

and Rakholi in south Gujarat and unearthed huge tax evasion on Tuesday.


Official sources said that the EoUs were raided after an intelligence input regarding huge tax evasion. The unit owners paid Rs one crore tax on the spot.

Sources said that the EoU units were being operated in the residential area from the last many years. These units had not taken clearance for selling in the domestic tariff area (DTA) and they were diverting goods, thereby evading huge amount of tax.

DGGI’s sleuths have confiscated documents and other electronic items including laptops and computers from the EoU units.

A senior officer said, “These units were directly supplying in the DTA without taking the clearance certificate. The goods diverted to the DTA area are being scrutinised for the evasion of tax.” tnn
