GIDC wall collapse leaves one dead

Surat: One worker died and another suffered injuries when a wall collapsed on them in Sachin GIDC on Tuesday. The victims were working to construct a basement exactly under the wall when the boundary wall of a neighbouring industrial unit collapsed over the duo. In the incident, Bharat Baraiya (40) died from severe injuries while Kiran Parmar suffered injuries. The incident took place at around 10.40am after which fire teams were alerted. The fire team started rescue operation which continued for over an hour while attempting to remove the debris. After extracting the two workers trapped under the debris, they were sent to the hospital, where Baraiya was declared dead after medical examination.“Around four to five labourers were working in the dug-up ground to construct the basement when the wall collapsed. The exact reason for the collapse of the wall is not clear,” said a fire officer. The deceased was working on Plot No 269 in Sachin GIDC Road number 2. Police team visited the spot and started collecting details of the incident. Police will take further actions based on the preliminary investigation.
