Official sources said a group of six youths from Boraiya village in Mahuva taluka had gone for immersion of Ganesha idol along with other villagers. The victims went into waist-deep water of the river along with the five-feet idol, when two youths slipped.

The other youths went ahead to rescue them when all the six got washed away in Purna river. While two youths were rescued with the help of other devotees at the immersion point at Mulad village, the other four went missing in the river. They were identified as Kunal Patel, 18; Sunil Patel, 13; Piyush Patel, 19; and Dakshesh Patel 30.

A search operation was on to find the youths, but so far there was no trace of them, official sources said. tnn
