Four arrested in Navsari confess to kidnapping in Anand

SURAT: A court in Navsari remanded in police custody the four historysheeters including a murder accused, who were arrested from near Lunsikui ground in Navsari town on Sunday. They were booked under the Arms Act as the police had seized from their possession different types of arms too, police sources said.
The accused were produced before a court on Monday which remanded them in police custody for their alleged involvement in abductions and murders across south and central Gujarat.

Paresh Chauhan, one of those nabbed, was considered to be a close aide of Raju Risaldar, a dreaded historysheeter of Vadodara. He was accused of having gunned down a politician in Vadodara about 15 years ago. The others Pintoo Trivedi, Raja Thakur and Haresh Valand are reportedly involved in the disappearance of Faizal Pathan, a Navsari-based travel operator.
Prem Veer Singh, district superintendent of police (SP), Navsari, told TOI, "The accused during their interrogation have confessed to have kidnapped a person from Anand a few months ago. Once the three-day remand is over, we will seek its extension as the accused have a long history in crime." He said, "We have informed the police in Anand about their confession and have sought details of the case."
"In the past 15 years, the members of this group have committed 20 serious crimes in south and central Gujarat," said one of the investigating officers.
The four were in Navsari jail and had come out on furlough but never returned. They were caught with three guns, 17 bullets, a Rambo knife and Rs 60,000 in cash. A vehicle was also seized from the gang.
