SURAT: Police arrested four persons on Sunday for allegedly kidnapping a man and his friend two days ago from an area falling under the limits of Adajan police station in the city. The victim couple was rescued from Ankleshwar Valiya Road in a joint operation by teams belonging to crime branch and Adajan police station. One of the arrested accused is principal of a school.
The couple was kidnapped by the accused to recover Rs50 lakh loan given to them to expand their cable TV network in the city.
Police arrested Chetna Vansiya, principal of a school; Maharudrasinh alias Shiva Vansiya; Abhijitsinh Vansiya; and Chirag Parmar for kidnapping the victims. The accused took Mitesh Randeriya, 45, and Dikshita, 40, in a car to Ankleshwar and made threat calls to victims’ friends for Rs50 lakh ransom for their release.
The victims were kidnapped from Bilvam Residency on Gaurav Path of Adajan on Friday night. The threat calls were made to Randeriya’s friends Umesh and Hitesh who lodged a police complaint subsequent to which the couple was rescued from Valiya road in Bharuch.
Police investigation revealed that Randeriya wanted to expand his cable TV network and needed Rs80 lakh. “He invested Rs30 lakh from his pocket and borrowed Rs50 lakh from the accused. Since the business failed to take off, the accused started to demand their money back. However, the victims were unable to pay,” a police officer said.
Randeriya agreed to give his plot of land to the accused for the money taken as loan from them. The accused forcibly took the victims with them to discuss the deal. Randeriya is into cable TV network business and wanted to expand it but the project didn’t materialize the way he wanted.
