Footwear salesman’s bank account used for dubious transactions worth 71 lakh
Surat: A footwear salesman from Dindoli has filed a cheating complaint against two persons for using his bank account to conduct several dubious transactions worth Rs 71 lakh without his knowledge. Police booked two persons, Asfaq and Sadik, under Section 420 of IPC and relevant Sections of IT Act on a complaint filed by Sabir Shaikh.According to the case, both Sabir and Asfaq live in the same residential complex. About six months ago, Asfaq requested Sabir to allow him to operate his bank account as his (Asfaq’s) owner Sadik’s account had become non-functional due to some GST issue. Asfaq told Sabir that he would give him Rs 10,000 if he allowed to use his account for a couple of months. After Sabir agreed, he was introduced to Sadik by Asfaq near Udhna Darwaja. As Sabir himself did not have a bank account, he gave his documents to Sadik who opened an account in Federal Bank on Althan road. Once the account is opened, Asfaq gave Sabir Rs 2,000 and assured him of paying the remaining amount later. Sabir also handed over two cheque books to Asfaq. On April 21, Sabir received a notice from the bank that there were dubious transactions worth Rs 71 lakh carried out in his account between January 9 and April 21. After receiving the notice, Sabir visited the bank where the manager told him that his account had been used for online transactions and police had requested them to freeze the account. As Sabir was not aware of such transactions, he filed a complaint of cheating at Dindoli police station. Inspector SM Pathan said: “As the transactions were without the knowledge of the complainant, we registered a cheating complaint. The transactions were done online and we found them dubious. We also added sections under IT Act for the offence. We are investigating and trying to find out the purpose for such transactions.”
