SURAT: Atruck driver and cleaner were arrested on Sunday evening from Sarthana octroioutpost, when they tried to sell off plastic beads worth Rs 9.35 lakh. Thebeads, loaded from Jamnagar Reliance refinery, were supposed to be delivered atGIDC, Ankleshwar estate.
Crime branch sub-inspector Vikramsinh Rathodsaid police maintained vigil at the octroi outpost after a tip-off.
"When truck driver Mohammed Lallan alias Lal Khan and MohammedShaikh could not give proper answers about the consignment, we checked thevehicle. As per the bills they had indicated, the consignment was meant fordelivery at GIDC, Ankleshwar," said Rathod.
When the manager of thetransport service, Gaurang Modi was summoned, it turned out that the goods werebeing sold in Surat to make fast buck. Based on Modi's complaint of breach oftrust, police arrested the driver and cleaner. They were taken on a two-dayremand.
