Delay in SGCCI’s inaugural ceremony irks members

Surat: Office-bearers of Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) had come under line of fire from members of the trade and industry due to one-and-a-half-hour delay in the inaugural ceremony of Energy International-2018 exhibition at Surat International Exhhibition and Convention Centre (SIECC) at Sarsana here on Friday.

Sources said the inaugural ceremony was to start at 10am in the presence of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Gujarat’s energy minister Saurabh Patel. However, the SGCCI office-bearers were running from pillar to post due to some internal issue and later announced that the energy minister will not be able to attend.

The inaugural ceremony was delayed forcing many people to leave the venue.

SGCCI’s managing committee member Nitin Bharucha said, “Even till the last moment, there was no announcement whether the energy minister is coming or not. Everyone was waiting for the energy minister to talk about the issues concerning textile trade. The event started two hours late from its schedule time, which irked many.” tnn
