Cycling race on Shahid Din

SURAT: Surat's popular cycling club Life Cycling Green (LCG) has organised city's first major cycling event on Sunday, March 23 from 6.30 to 10 a m on VIP Road. "We are organizing a short distance race to commemorate Shahid Din. The chief guests for the function are ex-Indian Air Force men Jayantilal Gamanlal Gandhi and Manmohan Sharma and the race will be flagged off by popular paediatrician Dr Bipin Desai," said Yogesh Patel, founding member of LCG.
"Around 150 cyclists will be participating in the race to pay a fitting tribute to martyrs, who died for a cause. With the motto, 'Just cycling', at LCG, the purpose is to be assertive, relentless and passionate in motivating people to participate in a healthy sport. Cycling not only empowers one with a healthy lifestyle, but also helps in conserving our diminishing environment and natural resources. We will race for this cause," said Jignesh Modi, founder chairman, LCG.
The race will comprise two categories: Road Bikes and Mountain Bikes. While Road bikers will need to cover a 20 km route, a 9-kilometer route has been charted out for the mountain bikers on VIP Road. It is open to all registered participants aged 18 and above.
