SURAT: One of the four members of a gang involved in stealing copper wires was arrested from Dindoli area of Surat on Sunday.
According to local crime branch (LCB) officials, in the recent past seven transformers have been stolen from farms on the outskirts of the city. Complaints were lodged in Sachin and Mota Varachha police stations.
During investigation, officials got a tip-off about the involvement of Ajay Tiwari alias Moti, who lives in Godadara area.
"Tiwari confessed to his involvement in stealing transformers, from which they extricated copper wires and sold them off", said LCB sub-inspector Vikramsinh Rathod.
"Apart from copper wire theft, Tiwari also confessed to having stolen two bikes. These vehicles were used by his gang members to go to the farms, from where they stole the transformers," said Rathod. Tiwari has also revealed names of three of his accomplices. However, the official refused to disclose the identity of other three accused, as it may hamper ongoing investigation.
