Burqa-clad women steal gold jewellery worth 2 lakh

Surat: Pandesara police station of the city booked two women and a man on Wednesday for stealing gold jewellery worth over Rs 1.77 lakh from a shop. According to the complaint, the accused came to Choksi Kirtikumar Chandulal Shah Jewellers at Bhestan crossroads on August 5. They asked for necklaces and nose rings. While the two women were burqa-clad, the man had a mask on his face. The two woman kept seeing different gold ornaments at the shop. At one point of time, they diverted the attention of salesman Dinesh Patel to other things and purloined one necklace and a packet of 24 nose rings. The value of the stolen gold jewellery was Rs 1.77 lakh. Later when the shop owners took a stock of the items, they found that some items were missing. So on Wednesday, Nikhil Kirtikumar Shah, the son of the shop owner, filed an FIR at Pandesara police station. Police booked the man and the two women under IPC Sections 379 and 114 and began investigation.“We have received the CCTV footage of the day of incident. The women had fully covered their faces and it is difficult to identify them from the footage. We are trying to check if they are professional thieves or are part of any gang,’’ said an officer from Pandesara police station.
