Bank manager held taking 20,000 bribe in Valsad

Surat: A 36-year-old bank manager was arrested by the anti-corruption sleuths in Valsad on Wednesday while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a villager.
The accused, Jagdishchandra Mishra, had demanded a bribe to approve a bank loan in which the complainant could get Rs one lakh government subsidy under Shri Vajpayee Bankable Scheme.
He was caught accepting the money in front of an ice cream shop in Gundlav village of Valsad.
The complainant wanted to start a DJ and music system supply business for which he applied for a loan under the scheme at the Vejalpur branch of Canara Bank.
As part of the procedure, Mishra visited his house and informed him that he was eligible for Rs one lakh subsidy. He then demanded Rs 20,000 to get the loan approved.
The complainant then contacted ACB which laid the trap.
Mishra asked the complainant to keep the envelope containing the money in his bag reportedly because he wanted to avoid touching the currency notes.
