68-year-old accuses brother of stealing mobile

Surat: A 68-year-old man has lodged a complaint at Varachha police station alleging that his brother stole his mobile phone outside their shop in Varachha.Police said the complainant, Nandlal Basantani, who runs a sari shop at Old Bombay Market, stated that his brother, Govind Basantani (58), also works at the same establishment. On Feb 6, after closing the shop for the night, Nandlal placed his mobile phone on a stone platform while locking the shutter. He later found the phone missing and questioned his brother, who denied any knowledge of it.Suspecting foul play, Nandlal checked the shop's CCTV footage, which allegedly showed his brother taking the phone and switching it off. Based on the footage, he filed a theft complaint.Police said the brothers share strained relations due to an ongoing property dispute, and further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the alleged theft.
