600 kg marijuana seized in Sayan

Acting on a tip-off, a team of special operation group (SOG) of Surat rural police, seized 600 kg marijuana worth nearly Rs six lakh from a tempo and a truck parked on the outskirts of Sayan village.

Surat: Acting on a tip-off, a team of special operation group (SOG) of Surat rural police, seized 600 kg marijuana worth nearly Rs six lakh from a tempo and a truck parked on the outskirts of Sayan village. During primary interrogation of the arrested tempo cleaner Javed Sheikh, a resident of Malegaon in Maharashtra, police got to know that two people from Surat ordered the contraband from a drug peddler in Odisha.

However, the drivers of the tempo and truck as well as the biker, who was to take them to the delivery spot, fled from there. Sheikh revealed the name of the truck driver as Rabi Mahapatra, a resident of Odisha. The duo had loaded the truck from one Chitra Parida of Ganjam in Odisha to be delivered to Narayan Daya and Rajesh Manglu in Surat, said SOG sources.
