Surat: As many as 57 people suffered food poisoning after having meal during a house warming ceremony in Kharsad village of
Navsari on Monday. Though nobody was hospitalized but most of them had complained of diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach cramps and nausea, said district health officials.
A team from the epidemic control department had rushed to the village to treat those affected.
According to health officials,
Ashok Patel, a resident of Mumbai had renovated his house in his native village Kharsad and organized a house warming ceremony on Sunday evening.
He had invited villagers for the function. Everything went well during the ceremony, but at night a few people started vomiting and complained of stomach cramps and diarrhoea. They all went to local doctors for treatment. After the district officials came to know about patients approaching local doctors from the same place, a team from the epidemic control department rushed to the village and started treatment.
Dr Bhavesh Patel, in-charge epidemic control officer said, “No one is having serious symptoms. Though over 250 people had attended the ceremony about 57 showed signs of food poisoning.”
