2-day botany festival at Waghai Botanical Garden
SURAT: A two-day
“The Waghai exhibition, purely on botany, is a rare festival to be held across the country. Together with the exhibition we will also launch a botany volunteering scheme,” said DN Rabari, Assistant Conservator of Forests.
This exhibition will be the third in its series to be held in Waghai since 2017. “The main purpose of organising the festival is to impart knowledge about the world of flora in an innovative way,” said Rabari, while elaborating that the garden has 1,459 different species of plants and of these, 60 are found only in the Waghai botanical garden.
Established in 1966, the garden is located 2km from Waghai town on the Waghai-Saputara road in Dangs district. Spread across 24 hectares of land, the facility has 7km stretch of road network and receives average rainfall of 1600 to 2,000 mm annually.
The festival will provide a platform to students, researchers, teachers, and faculties from different parts of the state to share information, knowledge and experiences on plant diversity with the visiting participants.
