NEW DELHI: Protests erupted in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district on Wednesday following the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon, officials reported.
Demonstrations took place in the Magam market area and Budgam town, as people observed the fourth day of mourning for Nasrallah.
The Hezbollah leader was killed on Saturday and buried a day later. Protestors, including men, women, and children, gathered on the main roads carrying black flags. They chanted slogans against Israel and the United States, condemning Nasrallah's death in Israeli airstrikes.
Officials mentioned that while the protests remained mostly peaceful, a significant police presence was maintained to prevent any potential violence. Shops in the Magam market and Budgam town were closed during the protests, they added, noting that the situation overall remained calm.
