‘NC not against Women Reservation Bill’

Srinagar: National Conference (NC) is not against the Women Reservation Bill and has no objection if it is implemented, party vice president Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday. “When have we been against women reservation? We ourselves implemented it here in panchayats and other places. We are not against women reservation, 50 per cent of our population is our sisters, mothers, they should get a chance to become representatives of people. We have no objection to this,” Abdullah told reporters in Budgam. Asked if it would impact the prospects of the party in J-K, Abdullah said party has no dearth of female leaders of calibre. “How will it impact? Do you think we have no women who will stand in the polls on the reserved seats? There is no dearth of female candidates in the NC anywhere.” PTI

All-party meeting: Regional parties push for women's reservation bill

Several regional parties, including the BJD and the BRS, are pushing for the women reservation bill to be tabled in Parliament. The government held an all-party meeting where issues like price rise, unemployment, social conflict, and the Manipur situation were discussed. Leaders from various parties, including Congress, JD(S), DMK, TDP, TMC, AAP, BJD, BRS, YSR Congress Party, RJD, JD(U), and SP, attended the meeting. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi represented the government.

'It is ours, Apna Hai': Sonia Gandhi on women's reservation bill

Sonia Gandhi, the Congress' parliamentary party chief, expressed support for the women's reservation bill, stating that it belongs to the party. The Congress has been advocating for the bill for a long time. The bill was first introduced in 1989 by Rajiv Gandhi for local bodies and was passed by the UPA government in 2010. However, it was not taken up in the Lok Sabha. The Congress welcomed the reported move to table the bill in Parliament.

Mayawati supports women's reservation bill, hopes other parties support it too

Mayawati, the national president of the BSP, has expressed support for the women's reservation bill, calling for 50% reservation for women in parliament and state assemblies. She also argued for a separate quota for women from SC, ST, and OBC communities. Mayawati stated that her party would vote for the bill even if their demands were not met. She emphasized the need for transparency in seat allocation and a time-bound implementation of the bill. Mayawati also criticized the BJP, Congress, and other parties for maintaining a casteist mindset.
