Waqf board official caught with Rs 1 lakh bribe

SHIMLA: The Vigilance Bureau team on Thursday caught the Estate Officer of Himachal Pradesh Waqf Board at Chakkar in Shimla, red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the office complex of Deputy Commissioner Shimla.

Though his office was at Chakkar, he had specially come to the Deputy Commissioner office to collect the bribe money from the complainant.

According to the Vigilance Bureau officials, a case FIR under sections 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018 has been registered at Vigilance police station against the accused Sadiq Mohammad (48) presently posted as Estate Officer, HP Waqf Board.

He was trapped by the Vigilance team with the bribe money of Rs one lakh at the office complex of Deputy Commissioner Shimla. He had demanded Rs one lakh from the complainant in lieu of renewal of lease agreement/rent agreement of Waqf Board property.

Sources said that when Sadiq Mohammad demanded Rs one lakh bribe for the renewal of rent agreement, the victims complained about this to the Vigilance officials. The Vigilance team had reached the Deputy Commissioner office complex on Thursday afternoon and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe.

Vigilance officials said that the office of Sadiq Mohammad was at Chakkar, Shimla but he had come to Deputy Commissioner office Shimla for handing over of lease agreement after collecting the bribe money of Rs one lakh in cash and cheques in lieu of rent agreement. Investigation is in progress, they said.
