NEW DELHI: A bridge collapse on National Highway 305 in Himachal Pradesh disrupted vehicular traffic between Mandi and Kullu district early Saturday, with a truck driver sustaining minor injuries when his vehicle plunged into the river during the incident.
The bridge, constructed around 1980, suddenly gave way in Banjar area of Kullu district. District administration and police officials immediately reached the spot.
The injured driver was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Kullu Deputy Commissioner of Police Torul S Ravneesh said machinery has been deployed at the site for restoration work.
The authorities have identified alternate routes, with traffic being diverted via Pandoh to reduce inconvenience to travelers. A temporary pathway was made available to the public by Saturday morning.
"The work of installing a bailey bridge will also be initiated soon," Ravneesh said.
The DCP confirmed efforts are being made to resume movement of light vehicles as quickly as possible.
