Maha man, paraglider rescued day after crash

Kullu: A tourist from Maharashtra and his paragliding tandem pilot, both of whom went missing after the latter crash-landed in the mountains near Bir Billing in Himachal’s Kangra district on Saturday night, were found the next morning.An official said pilot Ajay crash-landed in the mountains above Thathi village, 10km from Baijnath, with Yogesh, a resident of Thane in Maharashtra. Both of them were injured in the incident and chose to spend the night there. Next day they got in touch with a local search and rescue team, which, accompanied by police, rushed to the crash site and brought them down to Baijnath. They were taken to a hospital in Baijnath and their condition is stable, the official added. tnn

Two experienced climbers, Michelle Theresa Dvorak from the USA and Fay Jane Manners from the UK, were rescued from 6,015 metres on Chaukhamba III peak in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district. An operation involving the IAF, SDRF, and State Disaster Management Authority began on Friday and faced weather challenges. The climbers were stranded after losing their bag containing food and essential gear.
