KULLU: A 26-year-old tourist from Telangana died after she fell on the slab roof of a house while paragliding in Dobhi village near Manali in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.
Navya of Zahirabad in Sangareddy district of Telangana prima facie fell after her paragliding harness gave way mid-air, minutes after she took off in a tandem flight, according to a police official. He said police have arrested the paraglider pilot involved in the incident after registering a case.
All paragliding activities at the Dobhi paragliding site have been temporarily banned and an inquiry ordered into the incident, according to district officials. They added it was being probed if the pilot had taken off from an approved paragliding site and had all the requisite documents.
Dobhi is one of the popular paragliding spots in Kullu district and has witnessed a number of crashes and deaths.
On December 24, 2022, Suraj Shah, a 30-year-old tourist from Maharashtra, died under similar circumstances when his harness gave way mid-air immediately after taking off in a tandem flight near Dobhi. On June 15, 2022, Aditya Sharma, 20, a resident of Ambala, and his pilot Krishan Gopal, 24, a local resident, had died in a paragliding crash near the take-off site in Dobhi.
